The U.S. Edition of Sage 50 2024 Accounting Software was launched on October 17, 2023. This new version, offered through a subscription model, guarantees customers will always have access to the latest software and technical support from Sage, which is included with the purchase.

Sage HR integration is now available with Sage 50 for users subscribed to cloud-connected payroll services.

What’s new

The Sage 50 US 2024.0.1 update includes the following:

  • Performance optimizations allow for faster payslip upload.
  • Company Name, Address, and Federal Tax ID are now included in the sync of payslips.
  • Resolves the Sage HR integration for employee self-service expiring after renewing a Sage 50 subscription.
  • Resolves an issue where automatic or cloud backups are not complete when sharing a company through Remote Data Access.

For Downloading and Installation:

A keynote for users upgrading to version 2024.0: company data conversion is required after installation.

1. Important Check for Compatibility:

If your Sage 50 setup involves third-party products or integration with other Sage products, ensure compatibility by checking with the respective vendors or Certified Consultants.

2. Automatic Update or Manual Installation:

The update will automatically sent to your product. However, if you prefer manual installation:

  • Navigate to Services > Check for Updates > Check Now.
  • Choose the desired update(s) and select Download.
  • Once downloaded, exit Sage 50, and the update process will commence.

Please be aware of the following system requirements and compatibility changes for Sage 50 U.S. releases:

Operating System Compatibility:

  • Starting with Sage 50 U.S. release 2023.0, Windows 7 is no longer supported.
  • From Sage 50 U.S. release 2024.0 onward, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 Standard, and Windows Server 2012 R2 are no longer compatible.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Processor: 2.0 GHz for single and multiple users.
  • RAM: 8 GB for both single and multiple users.
  • Operating System: Windows 10 (version 21H1 and higher) or Windows 11 with the latest updates.
  • Disk Space: 1 G.B. for installation.
  • Browser: Microsoft Edge is required for certain features; Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge (version 2020 and higher) are supported for accessing Connected Services outside the product.
  • .NET Framework: Microsoft® .NET Framework 4.8; additional 280 MB to 850 MB required.

  • Sage Remote Data Access: Maximum file size of 5 G.B. for companies using this service.
  • Computer Name: Limited to 15 characters or less.

  • Supported in Sage 50 Premium Accounting and higher.
  • Optimized for Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2016 client-server networks, and Windows 10 peer-to-peer networks.
  • Sage 50 Premium Accounting allows a maximum of five licensed named users, while Sage 50 Quantum Accounting supports up to 40 named users.
  • Multiuser components require 2 GB of disk space for server installation.

Terminal Services:

  • Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019, along with Remote Desktop Connection or Remote Desktop Web Connection client, is required for a Windows Terminal Services environment.
  • Up to 5 named users for Sage 50 Premium Accounting or up to 40 named users for Sage 50 Quantum Accounting.
  • Additional memory is required when multiple users run under Windows Terminal Services.


  • Customer registration and acceptance of the Sage 50 Accounting software products license agreements are mandatory.

Recommended Configuration:

  • Processor: 2.4 GHz (3rd Generation and higher Intel® Core™ i3 and higher or AMD Ryzen™ 3 and higher) for single and multiple users.

  • Before initiating the installation, close all other Microsoft and non-essential programs on the computer.
  • Temporarily turn off your antivirus during the installation process.
  • Keep the firewall on and ensure notifications are enabled.

Sage 50—U.S. Edition – Standalone Installation Instructions

Step 1: Downloading the Program

  • First of all, you need to download the Sage 50 Program Update from the official website of Sage.
  • After this go to the server and open the program.
  • After opening the program, select Services and click on Checking Updates.
  • Now select Check for updates.
  • After processing all the steps you need to download Sage 50 latest version.
  • When the Sage 50 version is downloaded, close the program and start the installation process by following the given installation procedure.

Step 2: Installation on a Single/Standalone Computer

Note: It is advisable to set the program path to C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage\Peachtree.

  • Run the downloaded installation file.
  • Opt to install the necessary components for Sage 50 Accounting if prompted.
  • Disable the antivirus and proceed by clicking Next.
  • Consent to the license agreement and click Next.
  • Select the “Auto configure the Windows Firewall to allow install and run Sage 50 (Recommended)” box and click Next.

Note: The box will be grayed out if the Windows Firewall is disabled.

  • Verify or input your Serial number and click Next.
  • When prompted with “Will this be the only computer running Sage 50?” select Yes, then click Next.
  • On the Install Options, choose the location for the program and company data files, then click Install.
  • Finish the installation process.

Step 1: Installing on the Server

Note: Installing the program path at C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage\Peachtree is recommended.

  • Download the program installation.
  • Run the downloaded installation file and follow the prompts.
  • When asked, “Will this be the only computer running Sage 50?” select No, and then click Next.
  • On the Sage 50 Company Data Files Storage screen, select This computer is the server, and then click Next.
  • Verify the Install Options and proceed with the server installation.
  • On the Sharing Company Data screen, select Share the Folder and click Next. Refer to the articles listed below to share the correct folder with the appropriate permissions.

  • Complete the installation, read the Release notes, and allow the program to open and activate.
  • Open each company and allow the data to be converted to the new version.

Step 2: Installing on Workstations

Quick Tips for Network Install:

  • Always install it on the server first.
  • The program must be installed on each computer that will use Sage unless you are in a Terminal Services environment.
  • Use the Network Installation Manager to install on multiple PCs simultaneously; start the installation at the first workstation and then move on to the next.
  • The Network Installation Manager will not work over wireless networks.
  • When installing using the downloaded Sage 50 installer, the Destination folder is where the install files will be extracted; this is not the program location.
  • In a domain environment, setting the correct Windows permissions on the PeachtreeInstaller20xx folder may be necessary to run the network installation manager.

Follow Verify my data file permissions are correctly set.

  • Sage 50 Pro Accounting is not multi-user compatible; however, Sage 50 Premium and Sage 50 Quantum Accounting are multi-user compatible.
  • Installing through a remote desktop connection or virtual machine requires specific steps to start the installation:
    • Press the Windows+R keys.
    • Type %temp%, and then click OK.
    • Double-click the RarSFX0 folder.
    • Double-click the Peachw folder.
    • Double-click the Install folder.
    • Right-click _setup.exe, and then select Run as administrator.

Quick Tips for Upgrading:

  • If you choose not to replace the older release but convert your data into the newer version, you cannot use the data with the older release.
  • When installing using the downloaded Sage 50 installer, the Destination folder is where the install files will be extracted. This is not the location of the prior release. The previous install location is automatically detected during the installation wizard.
  • Installing/uninstalling Sage does not remove or change your company data.
  • The first time you open a company, it will be converted to compatibility with the new version.

Install on a workstation on a network

Executing this solution demands advanced knowledge of your computer’s operating system. Seek assistance from your system administrator. Incorrect modifications to your Windows Registry can severely impact system operations. Sage assumes no responsibility for operational issues resulting from improper changes in your Windows Registry. Always create a backup of your data before proceeding with advanced solutions.

Step 1: Update an Existing Workstation After Server Update:

  • When launching the program on the workstation after the server update, it should prompt for the update installation. If not, manually install the update.
  • Alternatively, install the update from the Sage Knowledgebase manually.

Step 2: Install Using the Network Installation Manager:

  • On the server, set folder permissions on the PeachtreeInstaller{Year#] shared folder (default in the Program Path).
  • Locate the program path on the server.
  • Verify data file permissions to allow Full-Control access to the PeachtreeInstaller[Year#] folder.
  • On the workstation, press Windows+R to open a Run line.
  • Type \ServerName (replace ServerName with the server’s computer name) and click OK.
  • Navigate to PeachtreeInstaller[Year#] > Peachw > Install.
  • Right-click _setup.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  • The setup will start, selecting settings from the server.


  • If ClientInstall.bat does not run, refer to “Nothing happens when I run ClientInstall.bat to install the workstation; how can I correct this?”
  • For multiple workstations, installations on other computers can commence before one is complete.
  • The server is installed as a workstation if the PeachtreeInstaller[Year#] directory is not found on the server.

Step 3: Advanced Options – Install to a Desired Data Location and/or Change the Program Path:

  • Follow Steps 1 through 4 to access the PeachtreeInstaller[Year#] shared folder.
  • Right-click Setup.exe and select Run as administrator; the install wizard will commence.
  • Follow the prompts, read the license agreement, and click Next.
  • Enter the serial number and click Next.
  • When asked if Sage 50 will be the only computer, answer No and click Next.
  • On the Sage 50 Company Data Files Storage screen, select “A different computer on the network is the server and will store Sage 50 company data.”
  • Confirm Sage 50 is already installed on the server and click Next.
  • On the Company Data Files Location screen, choose a mapped drive or click “Find a Computer” to map the drive to a network share.
  • Alternatively, use a UNC path for the data path.
  • Click Next, select the program files directory (usually best to leave as default), and ensure the correct company data location.
  • Click Install. Verify the desired mapped drive or server share is the installed data path local to the server.

How to register a product on the Sage Customer Portal

  • Choose the relevant Product Family, input the Serial Number (typically found on the disc), and click Submit.
  • Review the provided information, and if accurate, click Register.
  • For activation codes of previously registered products, you can locate them by visiting Products, Details.

How to activate Sage 50—U.S. Edition 2024

Note: If the program is installed on a network, follow these steps on the server.

  • Launch Sage 50.
  • If the activation prompt does not appear, navigate to help, then select Sage 50 Activation, Licensing, and Subscription Options.
  • Choose Activate Online Now (recommended) or Activate Manually.
  • For manual activation instructions, refer to “How do I manually activate the program or manually register the payroll service?”

How do I manually activate or update subscriptions?

Guidelines on manually activating the program or updating subscriptions in cases where internet access is unavailable or online activation/subscription updates are unsuccessful.

Please note that the following instructions assume the user is on a computer without internet connectivity. Suppose you have internet access and manually activate due to online activation issues. In that case, you can save the activation files to the Desktop and email them from the same computer when prompted.

Note: If operating Sage 50 on a network, Sections 1 and 3 must be executed on the server.

Step 1: Create the Activation File

  • Open Sage 50.
  • Click help.
  • Choose Sage 50 Activation, Licensing, and Subscription Options (for initial activation) or Sage 50 Subscription Updates.
  • Select Activate Manually; for subscription updates, choose Manually.
  • If the activation prompt does not appear, follow the “How to force the program to Activate again” instructions to display the Online/Manual Activation options prompt (applies only to Activating Sage 50, not updating the subscription).
  • Click OK.
  • Select “I need to start the process from the beginning.”
  • Click Next.
  • Enter the required company information (marked by asterisks).
  • Click Next.
  • Save the ActivationRequest.arq file to an external device (e.g., USB memory stick).
  • Click Next and keep the window open for Section 2.

Step 2: Email Activation File

  1. Take the external media with the ActivationRequest.arq file to a computer with email capabilities.
  2. Create a new email and attach the ActivationRequest.arq file.
  3. Send the file to

  4. Within 2 to 5 minutes, you will receive a reply email with an attached Sage50Activation.sma file.
  5. Copy the Sage50Activation.sma file to external media (e.g., USB drive).
  6. Take the media back to the computer with Sage 50 installed.
  7. Proceed to Section 3.

Section 3: Activate the Product

  1. On the computer with Sage 50, insert the media containing the Sage50Activation.sma file.
  2. Open Sage 50.
  3. Click Help, then Sage 50 Activation, Licensing, and Subscription Options.
  4. Select Manually.
  5. Choose “I have the activation file emailed from Sage.”
  6. Click Next.
  7. Click Browse and locate the Sage50Activation.sma file.
  8. Once selected, click Activate.
  9. Click OK to complete the activation process.

How do I install when data is being shared with Remote Data Access?

Sage Remote Data Access, previously known as Sage Drive, empowers you to connect and synchronize your data remotely through our cloud servers. Whether bringing your laptop home or installing Sage on your home computer to access a shared company via Remote Data Access, the data interaction occurs not through your office’s LAN (Local Area Network) but via the cloud.

Note: This configuration is recommended for both existing Sage 50 Accounting Multi-user local network environments and remote standalone environments. Follow the Standalone Installation Instructions.

As specified in the installation instructions, when prompted with “Will this be the only computer running Sage 50?” choose Yes. This results in an installation on your laptop or home computer as a standalone setup, enabling you to run Sage outside your local network.

Ensure the activation of Sage 50. You must close and reopen Sage 50 for activation changes to take effect. Subsequently, download your company shared with Remote Data Access.

Once the shared company is downloaded, any modifications made to your locally downloaded copy of the Sage 50 database will synchronize over the cloud with the central company database and any other users sharing the data. Similarly, any changes other users make, whether remotely or in the office, will synchronize with your computer.
