  • Open Sage 50 to begin the installation process.

Step 2: Install the tax update manually

  • To open File Explorer, press the Windows key + E.
  • In the File Explorer, browse to where you organize your data.
  • Click on the Data Path folder in your left-hand navigation. Then, open the Updates folder inside of it.
  • The Yearly Payroll Update file will appear in the format of payroll year, month-of-update, and Sage 50 version.
    • For example, the file name of the October 2022 tax update is “Tax2022Oct_Release202x.exe.
  • Double-click the update to install it, and follow the prompts when installing.

  • Click “Help”

  • Save the ActivationRequest.arq file to an external device that you can take anywhere, such as a USB memory stick or external hard drive.
  • When you’re ready, click Next.
  • Please leave the window open as you proceed to Section 2.

Section 2: Email activation file

  • Take the ActivationRequest.arq file to a computer that can send and receive e-mail.
  • Create a new email address and send the provided ActivationRequest.arq file as an attachment to the email.
  • Get the file sent to Sage50-Activation@sage.com.
  • Note: The subject line can remain blank.
  • You’ll receive a reply email in 2-5 minutes and will include the file named, Sage50Activation.sma.
  • Copy the Sage50Activation.sma file to an external media device such as a USB drive for offline activation.
  • After removing the external media device, put it back into the computer that has Sage 50 installed.
  • Continue to section 3

Section 3: Activate the product

  • If your computer has Sage 50 installed, there is a media file called Sage50Activation.sma that you can insert like any other image file.
  • Let’s open Sage 50!
  • Click Help, Sage 50 Activation, Licensing, and Subscription Options.
  • Choose Manually.
  • Choose I have the activation file that was e-mailed to me from Sage.
  • Simply click Next.
  • Find the Sage50Activation.sma file in your Downloads directory.
  • After you’ve selected your file, click “Activate.”
